Miguel Lopez
Executive Director

Miguel serves as the Executive Director for the Lone Star College Small Business Development Center.  He joined the team in April of 2017. He is a proud veteran having served in The United States Marine Corp (1986 – 1990). After being honorably discharged, he began attending North Harris Community College, today known as Lone Star College. Eventually transferring to Sam Houston State University, graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. Miguel credits his customer service etiquette and business acumen to his almost 17 years of banking. He has worked, and continues to do so in his role as executive director for the SBDC, with hundreds of small businesses both start-ups and existing businesses. He has been involved in and served in leadership roles with numerous non-profit and charitable organizations throughout his years in South Montgomery County where he has been a resident of the Woodlands for over 20 years.

Karen Sharp
Business Advisor

Karen Sharp started her career in systems analysis at Shell Oil and Tenneco Oil E&P where she programmed, maintained, and managed the Personnel /HR systems. She later moved into information technology marketing and sales in companies including BMC Software and Ansa Software, a highly successful tech startup. Karen earned a BS in Applied Science, Systems Analysis from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and an MBA from University of Houston. Karen is also a Certified Global Business Professional. 

Karen founded her branding solutions business in 1997 in which she provides digital, print, and promotional marketing and branding solutions as a franchisee to mid-large firms in the private and public sectors. Her clients include Harris County Public Health, Harris County Community Health Choice, and various oil and gas service firms. She joined Lone Star College as adjunct business faculty in 2007, where she taught marketing and business management courses. In 2009, she joined America’s SBDC at Lone Star College as a senior business consultant where she provides business advising services to businesses in the CyFair, Tomball and Magnolia areas. Karen developed the Business Success Seminar series which offers powerful information seminars at no charge for business owners in the CyFair area with the CyFair Houston Chamber and the Harris County Public Library. Karen’s specialties are marketing, information technology, supplier diversity, and franchising.

Steve Hamilton
Business Advisor

Steve comes to the SBDC with a wealth of financial, franchise and information technology experience.  Steve has been a business owner since 1993.  He sold his financial services company in 2004 that he started and remains a co-owner of a technology company.  As a financial advisor he consulted and advised small businesses on all aspects of financial planning, investing and the economy.  Prior to that, he worked as a senior information technology project manager for various institutions.  He has taught small business finance classes at LSC - Tomball and conducted many financial and small business seminars.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and earned his Chartered Financial Consultant and Certified Global Business Professional designations.

Jan Koenig
Business Advisor

Jan has 30+ years of experience in finance, education, and entrepreneurship. He received his bachelor of industrial engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his master’s  degree in business administration from Harvard University. Jan moved to Houston in 1978 after receiving his MBA. From 2003 to 2011, Jan owned and operated a multi-location franchise business operation, during which time he successfully developed two new territories and acquired two other existing operations. Prior to becoming a business owner, Jan held senior management positions with Nations Bank (now Bank of America) and with Compass Bank (now BBVA Compass).  Jan also has taught courses in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management as adjunct faculty at Houston Community College. Jan is also a Certified Global Business Professional.

Judy Granata
Coordinator II - SBDC

Judy came to us from LSC-Montgomery where she spent six years with the Vice President of Administrative Services working in a variety of areas including budget, business office, facilities, library and finance/reporting.  Before working at LSC-Montgomery, Judy worked at the LSC-System Office as the coordinator for the distance learning department.  Her past experience in administrative positions and familiarity with the LSC software allows her to effectively coordinate and administer the functions of the LSC-SBDC.

Judy earned her Associate of Science Degree from LSC-Tomball and her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Houston Downtown.
